Mallard, who lost the district in 2019 by 500 votes, supports Melnyk because of her progressive voting record on the Virginia Beach School Board.
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — Karen Mallard, 2019 Democratic nominee for the 84th House District, announced today that she is endorsing Kim Melnyk for the 84th House District.
“When I ran in the 84th, Kim supported and encouraged me through my campaign,” said Mallard. “She is a former educator who has been a champion for children and teachers as a School Board member which is why I’m proud to endorse her today.”
“I am honored to have Karen Mallard’s support,” said Melnyk. “Karen was a formidable candidate in 2019 and has been such a strong advocate for our public schools and our entire community. I look forward to working with her to finally flip the 84th and bring new representation to Richmond.”
Mallard joins several prominent Virginia Beach Democrats in supporting Melnyk. Melnyk recently announced that she had been endorsed by Virginia Beach Commissioner of Revenue Phil Kellam, City Council Members Aaron Rouse and Sabrina Wooten, School Board Chair Carolyn Rye, School Board Members Sharon Felton, Beverly Anderson, Dottie Holtz, and Trenace Riggs along with several other former elected officials and community leaders.
